Working, Do not Ask

One day, a friend of Abu Sa `id al-Khudzri do not have anything for breakfast. His wife asked al-Khudzri to come to the Prophet Muhammad. It is well known, no one came and asked something to the Apostles, he would give it. However, al-Khudzri reject it, until one day he was forced, then came to the house of the Prophet. Arriving at the residence of the Prophet, he was giving sermon (khutbah). "Who had enough, God mencukupkannya. Who keep themselves (from begging), Allaah will maintain it." Listen to the advice of the Prophet, al-Khudzri dissuade and returned to his home. (Bukhari, Muslim and Ahmad).

Some valuable lessons can be learned from this story. First, al-Khudzri, like the friends generally, have very high levels of adherence to the call of the Prophet. They never offered, but always be loyal and obedient (sami `na` na wa atha). "What the Messenger to you, then accept it. And, what he forbids you, then leave." (Surat al-Hashr [59]: 7).

Second, al-Khudzri tried to maintain and preserve themselves from begging attitude, because it includes such a disgraceful deed. As told in the Qur'an, although in trouble, the companions of abstinence begging (begging). (Surah al-Baqarah [2]: 273).

Third, the road to get sustenance is working and trying, not begging. Since hearing the advice of the Prophet Muhammad, al-Khudzri never again think begging, but it works and try. As acknowledged al-Khudzri in this story, that with effort and hard work, he can meet all the needs of his life, he even considered the richest man in circle friend Ansar.

Work is important because it is an indicator of human existence. Without work, people with no (wujuduhu adamihi `ka). Work is also important, because he became the only way that people can actualize their talents and abilities they have.

Onwards, the work is important because only by working people can liberate themselves from economic dependence with other parties. Furthermore, the work becomes more important, because by working people can reproduce good investment for his own happiness in the world and the hereafter. (Surat al-Kahf [18]: 110).

Learning from the experience of al-Khudzri this, we really should not help poor people by simply handing out money alone. This way than not to educate, not productive, because it creates lasting dependency. It is best to help them so that they can help themselves, with the philosophy Help people for the help Himself. The trick, they are helped to recognize their potentials and mengaktualisakannya as possible, so that they can meet the needs of their lives independently, both material and spiritual. This is The real moral ethos and the message conveyed to the Prophet Muhammad al-Khudzri, namely labor and not ask-mita. Wallahu nature.
