Changing Role of Parents Following Age Children

The gap in the relationship between parents and children often stand out as the child grows adolescents. The reason parents do not realize the role that should always be changed to follow the development of personality and age of the child.

Roslina adolescent psychologist Verauli said, parents should understand that their role is always changing. When it's time to be a baby sitter, and when to become friends, but still provide supervision.

If the teenager began to enter the experience gebet-menggebet for example, parents do not understand how adolescents gebetan style. Often parents prohibit children for fear of a negative association stuck. Finally, a gap in the relationship between parents and children, so children are more open to others (friends) rather than family.

"Children grow and grow, while serving his role of parents in child development is not the same. Parents should look at the changes around it, so they change their parenting style to adjust the child's development," said Vera, in a media briefing Cornetto Love Attack Race on Thursday (4/29/2010) ago.

Parents need to listen to children, especially teenagers, said Vera. In the world of children gebetan for example, not all parents can understand the concept gebetan in adolescents. In fact, Vera continued, dating in teens is more to having fun, not lead to a serious commitment like dating at the age of 20.

According to Vera, parents need to recognize the growth of adolescents by making it as a friend, and discuss problems. Vera said the role of parents to adjust developmental age and needs of children such as:
Age 0-2 years: Parents act as a baby sitter.
Age 3-6 years: Parents act as caregivers as well as instilling moral values.
Age 6-12 years: Children are familiar friendship, so that parents play a role as a friend but still provide supervision.
Age 13-20 years: Parents act as a friend but a relationship with the discussion. This means that a given parental supervision is still needed, but by discussion, and not directed by their parents.
